Sonic Contamination: Sound workshop with Laura Selby

Sonic Contamination: Sound workshop with Laura Selby
GET TICKETS

Join us for a unique opportunity to explore OmVed gardens in a new light, slow down and be guided through the space alongside sound artist Laura Selby.

This outdoor workshop will explore ideas of sonic bridging between the non-human and human. Participants will be guided through different exercises exploring deep listening and field recording, revealing worlds of sound normally inaudible to our human perception and creating extended listening states. The exercises will be performed individually and collectively, forming a sonic-web of relationships between participants and the acoustic ecologies explored.

About the Artist:

Laura Selby is a sound artist, and experience producer from Croydon. Fascinated in revealing the hidden perspectives and narratives of organisms through sonification, from mycelium, moss, concrete to microbe. Her crafted workshops aim to engage communities and expand personal and communal perspectives by sharing in research-led encounters and discussion. These have led to outcomes such as her extended-listening workshops based in Epping Forest and mushroom community garden designing with The South London Mushroom Club and The South London Urban Growers.

About OmVed Gardens:

Since 2017, we have been carefully restoring a previously tarmacked land in Highgate Village, north London, to provide a space to explore food, creativity and ecology for health and climate resilience.

We are a community interest company featuring a permaculture garden, a creative zero-waste kitchen and a growing educational, events and exhibition space. Our aims are to realise our deep entwinement with each other and the more-than-human, through thinking around food, gardening and ecological awareness, to improve diversity at all levels (seed, food, species, participation) and to use creativity and nature-led knowledge to help tackle the climate emergency.
