Diva's Pressure Cooker Dal Recipe

Kitchen Tips

As COP28 takes place, we look back to the World Food Programme Climate Smart School Meals event that was hosted at OmVed Gardens earlier this year.

At the event, we heard about a project to bring Electronic Pressure Cookers into schools across Lesotho to reduce the amount of energy and time it takes to provide nutritious school meals.

In the video, OmVed Garden’s Events Manager Diva demonstrates some of the many benefits of using Electronic Pressure Cookers - including saving time and energy.

A global shift in how we cook and what we serve for school meals could have a huge impact on carbon emissions, biodiversity, food sovereignty, and so many more benefits to the health of people and the planet.

Ingredients & Method:

1/4- 1/2 cup dry lentils per person

Soak the lentils overnight in hot water in the electronic pressure cooker (EPC) as it seals it tight.

Drain the water in the morning.

Put your EPC on the Saute function, heat a tablespoon of ghee/oil of your choice.

Add a few cloves and let it cook for a minute or two.

Add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder. Cook for less than a minute.

Add your lentils + salt + enough hot water to cover.

Set your EPC to 'High Pressure' for 15-18 minutes.

Once it's done, let out the steam and enjoy!
