Over the past year, we’ve had the joy of welcoming the children of Brookfield School back into our garden, watching them grow alongside the space itself. They've witnessed the changing seasons, explored the evolving landscape, and now, as our new buildings and exhibition open, they’re seeing the garden enter an exciting new chapter.
Year 1 students, new to the garden in autumn, rolled up their sleeves and got muddy, planting wildflowers for our meadow and beans for our seed-saving network. By summer, they were tasting fresh foods and delighting in the abundance of edible flowers and herbs, discovering flavours straight from our kitchen garden.
Year 2 students focused on our ponds and pond life, observing frogs in amplexus (their springtime mating ritual) and deepening their understanding of local ecosystems. They also had the chance to taste hearty vegetable stews cooked by pupils from Highgate School, sharing food made by local students.
Year 3, now in their third year of visits, feel right at home. For them, Omved Gardens has become an extension of their classroom. With each return, their familiarity with the space grows, as does their confidence. They navigate the winding paths with ease, recognise plants at different stages of growth, and take part in the rhythms of the seasons.
It’s a privilege to witness their curiosity bloom and their connection to nature deepen. Here's to nurturing more growth of the children, the garden and communities.
