Join the team: We're looking for an Education Programme Facilitator (Ecology)

OmVed Gardens is seeking a new team member to work with our team of food growers, gardeners,  chefs, ecologists and artists and together help deliver 18 education sessions for  primary-school aged children. Education experience is not mandatory, however the applicant must have experience in either gardens or conservation, and an interest in outdoor education.

Position: Freelance Education Programme Facilitator (Ecology)  

Responsible to: Director of OmVed Gardens

Pay: From £16.00 per hour reflecting experience and qualifications

Hours: 4-8 hours a week

Location: In-person role in Highgate, North London, N6 5JF

Interviews starting: Week beginning 29 July 2024

Expected commencement: Mid August 2024

Main Job Objectives  

Deliver 18 seasonally based education sessions throughout the 2024-2025 school year. Attend and develop the curriculum for these sessions across curriculum development  meetings 

Person Specification

  • Interest in outdoor education, specifically ecology and wildlife (birds and invertebrates).  

  • Ability to self-guide work, and work collaboratively.  

  • Willingness to learn outdoor curriculum development  

  • Excellent communication skills  

  • Ability to follow through with commitments and meet deadlines  

  • Experience of educating primary school aged children is a bonus

About Omved Gardens:

Located in Highgate, London, Omved Gardens encompasses one hectare of land. We practice organic gardening and food growing with a heavy focus on permaculture and environmental synergy. It is an outdoor lab, a meeting place and a celebration of organic and sustainable food production. The gardens are open to the public for educational workshops and events throughout the year. The vision for Omved Gardens is to increase biodiversity at all levels (food, seed, species, participation) and to use the garden, or the act of growing or tending the wild to advance towards the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
